The discussion at work recently has been the role of futurist thinking. Believe it or not, there are many people employed as futurists to try to predict future endeavors and technology. Here's a link to one such organization.
It's crazy to try to out-think the future. I'm trying to figure out the next cool wave of technology, especially in the ways of video/Internet/streaming/High Definition.
My best guess is that DVDs are obsolete already. Blu-Ray was obsolete and outdated before it even became a commercial item and that Blockbuster is dead as we know it. Just think about how quickly iTunes overtook CDs as something you would actually purchase.
At any rate, when cheap toys start moving in a seemingly cool direction, there has to be a paradigm shift moments away. Thus, I believe we are about two days away from 3D holograms in our living rooms ala Princess Leia in Star Wars. My niece got this cool Crayola deal for her birthday and I couldn't stop playing with it.
Honestly, it is so cool. As they say in Mazatlan: "Enjoy."
